Wacky Wednesday: My New TV Guilty Pleasure

I realize that this has absolutely nothing to do with weddings or events, but I have to say that since it's Wacky Wednesdays, I have to give props to a pilot TV show I watched last night, Glee on Fox. I have to say that I think this is going to be my new favorite show...my new guilty pleasure.

Glee is a mix between the original Fame TV show meets High School Musical. The characters all seem really interesting and I think it's going to make for good TV. I hope they don't cheese it up too much. The storyline was really interesting, the musical numbers were wonderful, and the characters are great. For me it was the triple crown of TV viewing last night. As another friend put it, "It's shear genius!" and I have to agree.

The premise is a high school music teacher torn between doing what he loves and making more money to support his wife and the lifestyle she thinks they should have. Than there's the other teacher who is secretly in love with the music teacher. The football stud turned Glee Club geek, after the music teacher basically fabricated a story to get him to sing in the group after he heard him singing in the shower of the boys locker room. Finally, you have your Glee Club geeks who are just a great group of of folks with awesome voices. I can't wait for the season to start.

If you missed the pilot, you can watch it in full here. Favorite line from the show last night, "I'm Beyonce, I ain't no Kelly Rowlands standing in the background."

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Icon Bride: Priscilla Presley

Priscilla Beaulieu shattered the hearts of thousands of girls when she married Elvis Presley. Priscilla married Elvis in Las Vegas on May 1, 1967. The marriage took place at the Aladdin Hotel in the Milton Prell's suite. The ceremony was short, attended only by close family and friends, lasted 8 minutes. The ceremony was followed by a breakfast reception with 100 guests.

Priscilla wore a floor length tunic style gown that she designed herself. It was made out of silk chiffon with a beaded yoke which was trimmed in seed pearls. The whole ensemble was topped off with a veil and a rhinestone tiara.

According to reports, Priscilla and Elvis' first dance was to, Love Me Tender. The couple honeymooned in Palm Springs. Priscilla was 21 and Elvis 32 when they got married.

The marriage only last for 6 years, but this bride's iconic look will always live in history.

The following is what my Priscilla Presley bride would look like today, simple with a little rebellious streak.

Gown: La Spose di Gio; Tiara Comb: Sparkly Crystal; Shoes: RSVP; Wedding Location: Las Vegas.

I hope this gets you All Shook Up.

Trend Thursdays: The Look at The Met Costume Institute Gala

It's always fun to see what celebs wore to The Met's Costume Institute Gala. This year's gala was held on Monday, May 4, 2009. It's the time of the year that I hold with bathed breathe on what made it down The Met's red carpet. I realize that it is sort of a costume party, but isn't it also a way to show off your best "costumes" or "couture?" Maybe even start the next trend or look?

This year's theme was "Model as Muse" and we all know that at one time or another, designers have had their muse for creating their lines. Here are some of the more famous pairings:
  • Bob Mackie and Cher
  • Halston and Jerry Hall
  • Anna Sui and Naomi Campbell
  • Louis Vuitton and Madonna
  • Marc Jacobs and Anne Hathaway
  • Chanel and Nicole Kidman
Well the outfits and costumes did not disappoint, some made us gasp in awe and others just made us gag in disgust. I will present my top 4 in the red hot and the hot mess categories.

First the Hot Mess of The Met's Costume Institute Gala

All four of these fashion icons, just made odd choices...was this truly their intention to look somewhat odd, crazy, dowdy, and dated?

Rihanna in Dolce & Gabbana; Madonna in Louis Vuitton; Kirsten Dunst in Chanel; and Kerry Washington in Louis Vuitton.

Would you recommend any of these looks to your bridesmaids? How about wearing it to a cocktail party? I hope not, especially Madonna's rabbit ear headpiece.

Now for the Red Hots at The Met's Costume Institute Gala

These four style icons hit the mark. Not only were their outfits fresh, but they didn't look out of place either. I mean really...Ashley's Olsen's dress could have come off very Golden Girls caftan, Renee's color choice could have come off as pea soup, Kate Moss' gold lame dress with matching turban could have come off dated, and Anne's zippered dress meats Brigitte Bardot do could have been a big flop, but all four just sizzled. Now these outfits are trends I could live with.

Ashley Olsen in The Row (Mary Kate's Label); Renee Zellweger in Carolina Herrera; Kate Moss in Marc Jacobs; and Anne Hathaway in Marc Jacobs.

Can't wait until next year.

BTW I loved Katy Perry's dress best. The mixture of material with metal was hot! Especially loved the Wonder Woman cuff...Can't believe it was made by Tommy Hilfiger.

Percy Sales Events: Question of the Month

As you all know I do a question of the month where I ask people on Facebook and Twitter one wedding related question. This month's question was, "What was the BEST part of your wedding?"

Here are the answers I received:

The best part was when the ceremony was over because I finally got to relax at my reception. - Kim, Dallas, TX

Having my family and friends in one place. - Lynnette, Livermore, CA

Being in the Crown Room (top floor) of the Fairmont San Francisco for our reception. - Julie, Fremont, CA

Walking out of our ceremony surrounded by bubbles. I know it sounds cheesy, but we turned around and all of a sudden everyone was standing up and the sky was filled with bubbles - it perfectly matched how I was feeling inside! - Kristen, Santa Barbara, CA

The open bar. - Alex, New York, NY

Going to the honeymoon suite after the reception. - Nancy, Ft. Worth, TX

Our friends singing during our ceremony. It was so magical to be serenaded by so many talented musicians. - Ross, Ojai, CA

Seeing my soon to be wife walking down the aisle for the first time. Brought me tears of joy. - Robert, Camarillo, CA

The hour that we had to ourselves after the ceremony. We sat on our hill on our swing and looked at the ocean and drank a bottle of wine and ate cheese and bread and salami and talked. And there was a little humming bird that perched right in front of us for the whole we were there. Who ever heard of a humming bird perching and sitting still for an hour? It was wonderful. The bed cover in rose petals that night wasn't bad either. - Carl, Santa Barbara, CA

The best part ever, the rose petals as we walked down the aisle. The rose petals in the ocean as the kids played and we talked to everyone. The rose petals and candles that were in our room. The rose petals the next day when we took a walk on the beach and knew they were from our wedding. Walking from our home to our wedding hand in hand, down the same route we usually walk to the beach, with people stopping traffic and honking and waving. - Melissa, Santa Barbara, CA

Saying our vows. It was like no one else was there. - Roger, Chicago, IL

The limo ride to the reception, seeing the whole wedding party together. My MOH surprised us with a basket full of snacks...we were so hungry. Oh and the dove release during the ceremony. Just glad the birds did not crap on us. - Ruchille, Union City, CA

The after party delight. Marianne, Dallas, TX

Seeing my hand-painted aisle runner laid out in all it's 125 ft. glory. - Stephanie, New York, NY

So...what was the best part of your wedding?

TIPsy Tuesday - Chocolate for Cinco De Mayo

In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, I thought I would blog about one of my favorite places in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Todos Santos Chocolates and Confections. Owner and self taught chocolatier, Hayward Simoneaux has a quaint little shop in the heart of Santa Fe and offers these extraordinary and delectable chocolate Milagros. Talk about chocolate as a religion!

Hayward uses Milagros not only to convey the culture that he lives in but to give chocoholics and others little miracles in every bite of his creations. His chocolates are masterfully and delicately covered with a thin veneer of 23-carat edible gold or silver leaf and infused with such flavors as chili and peppercorn. These chocolate Milagros are his signature pieces and it looks more like artwork than something edible. Once you take a bite...you'll know you have gone to heaven.

He packages his creations in great "Mexican" themed papers tying all of his products to a very fun and distinctive look. These chocolates would make great party favors for a Day of the Dead or Cinco de Mayo Party or just for the heck of it. Additionally brides and party throwers can use these chocolates to wish happiness and miracles in the lives of their guests.

Todos Santos Chocolates and Confections can be reached at (505) 982-3855 or by visiting their showroom in Santa Fe's Sena Plaza at 125 East Palace Avenue #31, Santa Fe, New Mexico, 87501. They do not have a Website so make a pilgrimage to this holiest of holy chocolate places or call and have them mail you their mouth watering wonders.

Inspiration Mondays: Lego

Lately my Inspiration Mondays have been inspired by my son...today is no different. This evening we were playing with my Lego blocks that are almost 30 years old. I finally took it out of storage and gave it to him. These multi-colored blocks are my muse for today and I thought I would do a wedding based on Lego. Actually, I have had a Lego inspired wedding cake done for a client and those photos are part of this board as well.

Here are my elements in making a fun and quirky Lego themed wedding...or even party. Click on inspiration board to enlarge (clockwise from top left):

Wedding Gown: Melissa Sweet; Necklace: Coloroot; Invitations: My Gatsby; Sandals: Fendi; Cake: Christine Dahl; Flower Centerpiece: Fan Pop; Candy Favors: Gumball.com; LED Lanterns: Geek Alert; Cake Topper: Lego; Lounge Furniture: No Made Design; Bridesmaid Gown: Priscilla of Boston; Rings: Hardware Sphere

I hope this inspiration board stacks up to your Lego wedding expectations.
